I think one of the concepts thats being used is that the missile launchers fill roles similar to there turret counterparts like so :
Siege launcher : 800mm Autocannon/neutron blaster cannon/mega pulse laser
Cruise launcher : 1400 howitzer/425 railgun/mega beam laser
Heavy launcher : 720 howitzer/250 railgun/heavy beam laser
Assault launcher : no direct counterpart (small turret ability to hit small targets, medium turret range, medium turret damage)
Standard launcher : 280 howitzer/150 railgun/medium beam laser
Rocket launcher : 200mm autocannon/light neutron blaster/medium pulse laser
It obviously still needs some more balancing, rockets are obviously broken etc, but my experience with the projectile equivalents of late is as such :
1400mm : will hit battleships ok over 15k or so, will hit cruisers 40-50k+, will only hit frigates around maybe 90-100k+
800mm auto : Will hit battleships ok over about 4k, cruisers somewhat at 12k+(though notably lower damage, no chance vs frigates.
720mm : Will hit BS ok, will hit cruisers ok at 10-15k+, will hit frigates only at extremes of its range.

280mm : will always hit BS within range, will pretty much always hit cruisers unless at point blank range, frigates it will hit perhaps 15k+
200mm auto : Will hit everything solidly, except perhaps very fast interceptors that are extremely close (which if they are extremely fast, they likely wont be for long.
Missiles dont sound quite so massively off, assuming they are indeed intended to fulfill those same roles (The Missiles with this version currently have even longer ranges than the projectiles, therefore one could guess even worse tracking, although imho it should be better, with perhaps about the same range)
The Assault launcher is the most unique of all, offering the same long range and good damage of the standard launcher, while having a faster RoF and the usual lower fitting that would go with a close range weapon - definetely a plus for cruisers here
